The Simulator - 1st vs 2nd Generation

Golf simulators around the world are generally grouped into two distinct types of technology-based system. These are known as 1st generation and 2nd generation machines. There are a number of major advantages to 2nd generation simulators as compared to 1st generation units, and as such it is essential that customers looking to purchase golf simulations are aware of the differences. Full Swing Golf simulators are the world's first and leading 2nd Generation system.

When simulators were originally designed and marketed, they were based around "Swing Analysis" technology. These were the 1st generation machines. In order to generate the ball flight within their simulator, they would read the head of the golf club only. This would normally be achieved by measuring the club head as it broke light being shone down from above onto a series of photosensitive cells.

This technology was, and remains, limited in its flexibility and accuracy, as it makes a series of assumptions about the loft and strike of the golf club. A golfer using this type of simulator will normally have to input the club they are using for their next shot, before then hitting the ball from the same place every time. Additionally, should a golfer "thin" or "top" their shot along the ground, by only reading the club head these systems tend to generate a standard high flight for the ball. Unfortunately this does not provide the golfer with a realistic or enjoyable golfing experience.

The major advance that the creators of Full Swing Golf introduced was to ignore the club head entirely, and simply read the ball as it flies towards the projection screen. This allows the ball to be hit from anywhere within the simulator including different surfaces to simulate rough and sand. More significantly, by tracking the ball only, the accuracy of the system is massively increased. The ball flight is directly, and instantly, translated to the screen as an exact representation of how the golfer has struck the ball. If the golfer strikes the ball low, for example, the tracking system accurately generates a low ball flight.

Full Swing's introduction of their 2nd generation tracking system has created the most accurate ball flight analysis of any simulator on the market. It also ensures that the experience for the golfer ia as simple and intuitive as possible. Any Full Swing user knows they just have to drop the ball anywhere in the simulator and hit it. The Full Swing Golf tracking technology does the rest!
